WFilter file-based version and database version are same in all features except different monitored data storage.

1. WFilter file based version stores monitored data in WFilter installation directory.

2. WFilter database version stores monitored data in a local or network database( MSSQL or MySQL database).

To use the WFilter database version, you need to setup a database first and choose the database during WFilter installation. The benefits using WFilter database version is that you can save the monitored data on a central server where you can use database's data management features to keep your data safe. And you can use sql query to get custom reports.

Also, to use the database version you need a available database and administrator privilege, while WFilter filebased version is easier to setup.

WFilter database structure can be found at: http://www.imfirewall.us/database_structure.htm
