WFilter deployment questions in my home network.

Postby denis » Sat Apr 28, 2012 6:09 am

I want to monitor all computers on my home network, particularly I want to block bittorrent and all p2p programs.

I have a router Cisco LinkSys E3000 and a switch connected to the router D-Link DGS-1008G. More precisely I want to control three computers connected to my home network. How can I use WFilter for doing that, if you can help me.

On my network, 4 devices were connected directly to my router Cisco and 4 connected to the switch. I can configure all these connections differently but I do not know where I must start.

Actually I monitor only the computer Pc with the WFilter installed on it. However I can see other computers in the menu: "Online Computers" but no monitoring.

To monitor other computers, the WFilter computer shall be connected to a mirroring port in your switch.

However, neither your linksys E3000 or DGS-1008G supports port mirroring feature.

You have two solutions:

1. Add a manageable switch or router. This example might be helpful: http://www.imfirewall.us/help/doc/deploy_wireless.htm

2. Set the WFilter computer as a network bridge between your router and switch. Then you shall be able to monitor all computers connected to the switch, but you can not monitor wireless devices with this deployment. Please check this example: http://www.imfirewall.us/help/doc/deploy_winxp_bridge.htm
