Blocking internet radio sites issues using WFilter.

Postby Iain123 » Tue Jan 19, 2010 10:46 pm

I am currently trialling WFilter, and have successfully installed and am monitoring several computers. However, I have tried everythin but cannot seem to block certain "adult" websites (e.g. XLXX.COM), also I have added them to black-list, have activated the black-list, and have confirmed that the blocking-level I created (which refs. the blacklist) is being used.

Also having difficulty blocking BBC IPLAYER and some INternet Radio sites (streaming media website). (only some streaming sites seem to get blocked in my current setup)

Can you advise please?

I've checked your blocking settings.

1). the xlxx.com issue:

Now you have "*.xlxx.com" in the website black list. However, "*.xlxx.com" can not block "xlxx.com" because "*.xlxx.com" expects a dot before "xlxx.com".

So I suggest you to use "*xlxx.com" instead of "*.xlxx.com" for the website black list.

2). The bbc iplayer issue:

WFilter's "website black list" is based on website domains, so we can not use "website black list" to block iPlayer, since iPlayer is a subfolder of www.bbc.co.uk without a individual domain. However, we still can use "URL Keywords Filtering" feature to block url with certain keywords.

I wrote a guide for you to block iplayer: How to block bbc iplayer?

3). For other internet radio sites, please let me know the sites domain name. So I can check.

BTW, I noticed sometimes your denypage can not showup when a website is blocked. And I found it was because the denypage is too long. If you also have this problem, please reduce its length to make a try.
