WFilter: Not logging Chat, Email - ASA-5510

Postby kim jong-il » Sat Jan 08, 2011 3:58 pm

Hey all,

I'm demoing the WFilter trial and have a couple questions regarding the monitors.

I currently am able to monitor all computers on our small network and can see everything except for "Chat" and "Email". Our email server is not hosted internally but instead, we're using POP/SMTP from our web host (hey, I said we were small!) and the chat clients of choice seem to be Skype IM and Google Talk.

Can anyone clue me in on why chat and email are not logged? Is there a setting on the ASA that needs to be configured or within WFilter.

Thanks for a great product!

Regards,

Shade

First, for chat monitoring, WFilter only supports MSN(Live messenger), Yahoo!, ICQ, plain XMPP and Tencent QQ. "Skype IM" and google talk messages can not be recorded because their traffic is encrypted.

"POP/SMTP" emails are supported. The reason shall be related to your WFilter settings:

1). Is the email server in local network Or shall a same IP segment with local computers? By default, WFilter only monitors internet traffic. If it's true, you need to add the email server's ip address into "System Settings"->"Monitoring Settings"->"Local Servers" for WFilter monitor it.

2). For old versions of WFilter(older than en.3.3.175), only 110 port of POP3 and 25 port of SMTP is supported. Please check your WFilter version if your pop3/smtp ports are not default.
