How to prevent excessive growth of WFilter logs?

Postby imrozalik » Wed Nov 18, 2009 6:39 pm

I am using WFilter database version.

A customer of us is complaining about the excessive growth of WFilter logs. Also, our customer is asking how does the database to store the data once it reaches its limit, since it is only saving just a few entries. And last but not least, our customer asks why it grows so quickly if the database only stores plain text data.

How to prevent excessive growth of WFilter logs?

The database growth depends on the "Recording Level" of WFilter.

Using the default "High" level, emails and file transfers are all recorded into the database, which can cost a lot available database space.

If the database reaches its limit, it usually will automatic expand its data file to enlarge the database size.

To reduce the logs size of WFilter, you have two solutions:

1. Change "Recording Level Settings" of WFilter, for example, no recording file transfers or no emails, or no webposts.

2. Enable "Auto backup" in "System Settings"->"Log Management" of WFilter, to delete expired logs. (For example, delete data of 60 days ago.)
