Web surfing monitoring issue of WFilter

Postby smarion » Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:35 pm

Hi, I am trying out IMFireall and like it. However, I have an issue, I am not sure I understand why I am getting it.

On the server that I installed the program on I can see the URLs that are visited, but on the other PC I am monitoring all it says for the website and website titles is canyon:8059 (canyon is the server that I have the software on).

Do I have a setting wrong so it is not giving me the right website info?

It is not a proxy server. Our gateway is a Cisco Pix that connect to router. The Canyon server is the DHCP server and Exchange server.

I am afraid your WFilter is not deployed at a correct place. To monitor all computers internet activity, WFilter shall be deployed at a single location, where it can see all internet traffic.

Usually, the WFilter computer shall be connected to a mirroring port of your switch. However, since your canyon server is only a DHCP and exchange server, it can only monitor itself.

Websites "canyon:8059" should be something like an update service, which is used by the client computers to update data with the server.

Please check our deployment examples for more details: http://www.imfirewall.us/help/doc/deployment_example.htm

All you need to do is to setup a mirroring port in your switch to mirror all internet traffic. And connect the WFilter computer to the mirroring port.
