Local host capacity and disk space of WFilter

Postby Ran123 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 6:28 pm

I have been running the software for few weeks now on our local server

for 35 users. The software was installed on the server main drive C:

which is basically a system disk and doesn't have much space on it. When

I started the folder IMFilter size was about 600MB now after few weeks

it is almost 6GB in size. This is eating up my hard drive space.

My questions is, can I move the entire folder to another drive (D:)

which is larger in capacity? Would the system still work? How would I

direct it to this drive/folder?

I am using the browser to log on but it seams that all the info is saved

on the local drive.

Please let me know asap as I am running out of space.

The monitored data is all kept in your local disk. You need to reinstall WFilter to change the log path. (We plan to add such a feature for you to change WFilter log path without re-installation in later versions.)

Please follow below steps:

1. Uninstall WFilter. (Monitored data and settings will not be removed.)

2. Reinstall WFilter to the new folder.

3. Copy the old "log", "logbyIP", "config" directories to the new folder.

4. Done. (You don't need to activate your key again.)

These steps will copy all settings and monitored data to the new floder. If you only want to keep the settings, you only need to export and import the settings in "System Settings"->"Import/Export Settings", without the need to copy the directories.

And if you don't want WFilter to consume so much disk space. You can:

1. Disable recording of files, emails, web posting in "Recording Level Settings".

2. Enable logmanagement in "System Settings"->"Manage Logs" to delete expired data.

Thanks for the info. I will give it a try. But before I do it, I have another question. Can I move it to another computer/server all together?

The answer is "yes". You also can move WFilter to another computer by above steps.

However, you need activate the license key in the new server. And you need to de-activate WFilter key in the old computer before activating it in the new server.

"De-activate" can be found in "Help"->"About" of WFilter.
