Can not monitor

Postby fcummins » Mon Oct 01, 2012 11:18 pm

I'm at a complete loss. When I first started using IMFirewall, I had a hub between the router and our network and was able to use pass-through mode with no problems. I've since bought a managed switch and cannot get the blasted thing to work at all for me. Here's the infrastructure . . .

Firewall IP x.0.0.10 -> Linksys SRW224G4 (Port 13)

Linksys SRW224G4 (Port 1) -> Switch -> Internal Network

Linksys SRW224G4 IP x.0.0.29 (Port 24) -> monitoring computer (NIC1) - IP x.0.0.30/SN 255.255.255.0/GW x.0.0.10

monitoring computer (NIC2) - IP x.0.0.116/SN 255.255.255.0/GA x.0.0.10 (for remote console)

The Linksys SRW224G4 is configured with the following:

Administration -> Diagnostics -> Port and VLAN Mirroring -> Dest Port 24 Source Interface 13 Type Tx and RX

What am I missing?

Thanks.

I see no error with your network topology and port mirroring settings.

Please check:

1. In "System Settings"->"Monitoring Settings" of WFilter, the "monitoring adapter" shall be the "(NIC1) - IP x.0.0.30".

2. Make sure "NIC1" is directly connected to "port 24".

This document might be helpful: How to check whether port mirroring is properly configured?

If problem still exists, please send the "IMSupport.zip" file to "support@imfirewall.us", so we can check your settings. This file can be downloaded in "Help"->"Support" of WFilter.

I have sent the .zip file. Also, the configuration has changed somewhat - instead of using a managed switch and port mirroring, I am using a network hub placed between the firewall and our internal LAN. Topology is:

We had a talk via MSN messenger. Is this problem solved?

It appears to be. I should have a better idea tomorrow. Again, thank you for your help.
